![]() ![]() Over 400 acres in this place and even though the reports are of clean exhibits, for the larger or free roaming animals (3 elephants, giraffes and red wolf and bears) their cages are woefully inadequate for the size they need to be comfortably houses. I know people rave about this place so I will simply make it brief. While this is a nice event it is good to arrive early or the best suggestion is to purchase the buffet for 25.00 and have the front on the line access. Cars were actually backed up onto the highway about 3 miles. We left the event about 7:00 and the line to enter was huge. Once we had eaten we were then escorted into the spectacular again with no wait. We had pre-purchased tickets and had no delay in entering the buffet. We arrived about 5:00 and had no problem parking in the general lot. All items were refilled before they were empty. All the food was of good quality and while seating is a bit crowded we did not have any problem finding a seat at a picnic table. There was also soda, water, coffee, hot cider, hot chocolate and water. The buffet was good with hotdogs, hamburgers, turkey, mashed potatoes, mashed butternut squash, pulled pork, stuffing and squash soup. We had purchased the buffet dinner for 25.00 that allows for front of the line entrance to the pumpkins. We visited The Roger Williams Zoo Pumpkin Spectacular on Saturday October 19th 2013. I would highly recommend visiting on a weeknight earlier in October when you can see the Jack O' Lanterns at dusk. Would I go again? Yes, but not on a weekend. The start of the trail was very croweded, so I might advise skipping ahead a bit to the less crowded parts. Some pumpkins are traditionally carved, others resemble paintings. Now for the Jack-O'-Lanterns: I have to say the displays were very impressive. ![]() Perhaps the best was the pumpkin ale in a cinnamon dipped cup. There are vendors offering food & souvenirs. The next hour was similar to waiting for a roller coaster, basically standing in place and moving very slowly. After purchasing tickets we were told that it would be an hour and 15 minutes until we reached the trail. There was some traffic just getting into the park, and no signage once inside. Apparently my friends and I were not the only ones visiting. I went on a weekend night, arriving at opening time. This review is specifically for the Jack-O'-Lantern Spectacular.
